Akwa Ibom Assembly confirms Godwin Abraham as substantive chief judge






The Akwa Ibom House of Assembly on Thursday confirmed the appointment of Justice Godwin Abraham, as substantive Chief Judge of the state.
The confirmation followed a report by the Deputy Chairman, House Committee on Human Rights, Justice and Public Petition, Mr Otobong Akpan at plenary.
Akpan, during presentation of the report confirmed that Abraham had earlier been screened by the National Judicial Council and found worthy to occupy the office of the Chief Judge.
The committee Vice Chairman said in line with Section 271 sub section 2, 3 and 4, of the 1999 Constitution as amended, Abraham had qualified to practice as a legal officer, adding that the appointee has been in active practice for 32 years now.

The House dissolved into the committee of the whole and ratified the report of the committee.
The House Leader, Mr Udo Keriean (PDP) moved the motion that the House confirmed Abraham as substantive Chief Judge and was seconded by Mr Ime Okon (PDP) representing Ibiono Ibom state constituency.
The Speaker, Mr Onofiok Luke in his remarks commended the appointee whom he said had the pedigree and the credentials deserving of his office.
While congratulating Abraham on his appointment, he however used the occasion to urge him to take advantage of the Criminal Justice bill passed by the house to decongest the prisons.
He directed the clerk Mrs Mandu Umoren, to communicate the decision of the House to the Gov Udom Emmanuel and other relevant authorities for action.
